The Columbus statue was meant to celebrate Italian American heritage when Catholic Italian Americans were being lynched. Italian lives matter. Let’s make our city safer before we worry about scenic statues downtown. Syracuse had 105 rapes last year. Murders – 20. None of those victims care about the Columbus statue. Most city residents don’t either. It is one of the 4 nice areas downtown.

I had such high hopes and was so excited when he was elected. I thought he would have fresh, new ideas. Nope. Just another lazy politician. It’s easier to appease the mob then to stand up for what’s right. So sad.

In Syracuse you have many symbols of people who came here and did backbreaking work to make a better life for the next generation as did many other cultures. This phenomenon is not unique to Syracuse or the US. In an effort to preserve the Coliseum in Rome some have called for its destruction because of the barbaric history of the place. I say you can’t cancel out history just learn from it
